Guidelines for asking questions
When to ask?
- Ask when the child asks you or tells you something (when the interaction is initiated by the child) - other wise let the child work.
- Ask during stimulation.
- Ask during reflection.
- Ask as transition
What to ask?
Ask pre-prepared questions - this ensures that your questions are
- few
- relevant and meaningful and profound
- are spread evenly on all blooms taxonomy levels
so prepare and keep a list of questions with you ask mostly those questions only.
How to ask?
Ask more as if you are wondering (eg in response to "this is boring" - "I am wondering what else i can do to make it more interesting? I am wondering what would aditya find more interesting)
realise here that the onus is on ME - since am staring the sentence with a "I am ...."
This way there is no expectancy from the child. If required look upwards or somewhere else to communicate that there is no response expected.
Another cool way is to ask a question and then move away from the child. This again communicates to the child that the response is not important.
By and large remember the first principle of facilitation - SILENCE.
Children per se do not need facilitation.
