Discover me program is based on Theory of Multiple Intelligence (MI) - which looks at Intelligence in EIGHT ways: If you're good at reading, writing, telling stories you are Linguistically(1) Intelligent. However, if use your body through sports, dancing, acting, crafts, tools, etc then you are Bodily-Kinesthetic(2) Intelligent. Somebody good at visualizing, designing, painting, arranging, etc., is Visually(3) Intelligent. While Math-Logically(4) Intelligent people are strong in logic, reasoning, problem solving, analytic thinking, etc., Musically(5) Intelligent people show talent in singing, playing instruments etc while Naturalistic(6) people have an affinity towards nature and love pets and animals. Interpersonal(7) people work best with others, while Intrapersonal(8) are thinkers and dreamers.

Kind of Activities - Wide varieties of activities -Fun activities, group work, extremely stimulating environment and exclusive real world experiences that give the exposure and hence develops all the eight intelligences - hence child gets exposure to a very wide range of activities: From music to language, numbers, art , craft, clay , drama , puppetry, interpersonal skills, science and to everyday experiential learning etc. All while kids have loads of enjoyable activities.
The objectives
- Expose all the eight intelligences - some are already in the child, some child get EXPOSURE - hence help develop all eight. (Each intelligence gets developed when it is used).
- Create awareness about how the same thing can be done in EIGHT different ways
- Each one of us has our unique strengths, the way in which we are intelligent. A child discovers his/her strong intelligences by EXPOSURE to activities based on all eight.
How we do
Lets illustrate this via an example activity set:
- We start telling a story and stop in between. Now we ask children to finish the story as per their wish. [Linguistic and Intrapersonal Intelligence)
- Once they finish their story, they can put up a small puppet show of "their" version of the story: First they go out collect stuff from nature and make puppets. [Visual and Naturalist]
- They also using paper and junk make a set. [Visual and Body-kinesthetic]
- Then they add music to their story [Musical]
- Finally they use each other as actors or puppet assistants [interpersonal]
- and put up a small show by themselves [Body-kinesthetic]
The key points here to note are
- Different activities look like a continuous connected set to the children - not as disjointed activities. So children seamlessly move from using one intelligence to another.
- We do not help the child directly - this way the child's own efforts stretches and hence develops that intelligence.
- Since the end result (what the child makes) is less important - the application of an intelligence becomes more important - hence while the child may not carry back home good looking stuff, the involvement f child is high and developmentally richer.
- While all the above activities all the kids will do at different levels -
- Some activities child will do with his intelligence - my strength, awareness
- Some the child will get exposure for the first time - New exposure and awareness
- Some child will see others doing and try for the first time - peer to peer learning, environment
What we DO NOT do
1. We do not compare children - each child is unique and special and DIFFERENT. Comparison only demeans the compared.
2. Judgment - We do not judge the child nor the child's effort nor his or her work
3. We do not Push the child to produce results that we may want. What is important is what the child wants and does on his own to achieve that. His own motivation, efforts and result are his own learning. We do not want the child to carry home "stuff" that parents may like seeing - but which are actually not done by the child!
What we DO
- Awareness - Make the child aware of his strengths, abilities, interests etc. Make the child aware of his thinking and his feelings.
- Acceptance - We accept the child;s thinking, feelings, preferences etc. He has freedom without hurting himself, others or things.
- Encouragement - "You can do, we all are different and have different WAYS of doing".
- Emphasis is on Thinking and doing (not on outcome)- "How you do; What you do; What you think; etc (Read more about Thinking)
What will the child learn / benefit?
Holiday programs are all about exposure. What your child will gain will
be exposure of all the eight intelligence in a enjoyable environment.
What feedback will parents get?
Holiday programs are short duration. Since any feedback can only be based on sufficient observation - It is not fair for us to give any feedback about the child in such a short duration. We give feedback in our long term programs like Success Saturday or Khoj (preschool).
Program Notes:
- The program is every morning 10 to 1pm - five days a week - Monday to Friday;
- Fees Rs1000 per week; Minimum three weeks.
- The program is designed on weekly basis - each week is a different and unique - but independent module.
- Your child can start on any monday between 29th March and 28th May 2010 and
