ACTION plan at GK

PDF version

The session by Trupti was stimulating. The team was all excited to REDUCE use of plastic withing gK and at ther home.

FEW THOUGHTS

It is about not about Avoid plastic but REDUCED the INTAKE of plastic. At personal level start with REFUSING plastic bag from anywhere is mantra. At Geneikids level areas where we are using plastic

  1. Straws for making puppets
  2. Laminate papers which are taken by home and finally they are thrown
  3. Plastic cover for Khoj to send soiled clothes
  4. Paper plates to make puppets
  5. Colour tape, stickers to decorate
  6. Disposable cutlery for cooking activities
  7. Chamkis, decoration items which are made with plastic like strwas etc.
  8. We are already not using any Thermocol based products

Other things where we WASTE natural resources like trees

  1. Ice cream sticks
  2. Chart paper
  3. Normal paper
  4. Full flush in toilets
  5. Harpic kind of chemicals

We keep 3 dusbins at the lending (currenlty where the bags racks are kept)

  • Paper waste (cut waste), newspeper etc. in one dustbin - Where and how to dispose -
  • Plastic waste in one bin - waste plastic covers, chocolate wrapper, chips packets, biscuits packet covers etc
  • Food / Wet waste
On Ground floor in the kitchen we keep 4 dustbins
  • Paper waste (cut waste), newspeper etc. in one dustbin
  • Plastic waste in one bin - waste plastic covers, chocolate wrapper, chips packets, biscuits packet covers etc
  • Food waste in one dustbin

Near sand area on Ground floor 2 dustbins

  • Plastic waste in one bin - waste plastic covers, chocolate wrapper, chips packets, biscuits packet covers etc
  • Dry leaves and twigs etc

And finally all the waste goes in BIG respective containers

  • Paper waste (cut waste), newspeper etc.
  • Plastic waste - waste plastic covers, chocolate wrapper, chips packets, biscuits packet covers etc
  • Food waste

All our other plastic container like harpic bolltes, liquid saop container etc goes to Raddi wala
We will talk to Raddi wala if he takes plastic watse also or we find how do we dispose it.

We intend to start children awareness group from mid June'09. Trupti has agreed to LEAD the whole intitive of children's group.

i would like to specialy thank all those who have shown keen interest in taking up the reduce, reuse and recycle plastic issue. bhavya is going to give me a contact number of people in her area who are doing some good work in this area, shivani has organized a talk about the issue in an organization she is affiliated to, mini too has expressed interest in arranging a talk in her area to increase awareness, padma has personally started to consciously follow the reduce, reuse, recycle plastics along with her children. Also a special thanks to sandhya for raising few relevant questions regarding recycling plastics. it has given me a lead to pursue research and follow up in that direction. also, vidya has helped me to realise that we need to do something at the malls level and priyanka has brought up the most relevant issue of making alternatives to plastic bags available at places like super markets, malls, etc. i have updated my team on all these issues raised yesterday and we will be working in this direction. i am sure i shall have some more information with me till the next meeting at geniekids.
